Det ble ingen «norsk» Oscar i natt, verken på Morten Tyldum eller Torill Kove. The Imitation Game vant bare én pris, for beste adapterte manus, mens Birdman og The Grand Budapest Hotel fikk hele fire statuetter hver. Førstnevnte tok med seg de gjeve utmerkelsene for beste film, regi og originalmanus.
De siste årene har Akademiet hatt for vane å fordele prisene nokså jevnt mellom forhåndsfavorittene, og denne tendensen gjentok seg i år. Nattens morsomste overraskelse var at «trommethrilleren» Whiplash vant hele tre priser, inkludert beste klipp. The Grand Budapest Hotel ledet lenge an med hele fire priser (produksjonsdesign, kostyme, sminke, musikk), men måtte gi tapt i de «tyngre» kategoriene. En skuffelse for oss som hadde håpet på å se Wes Anderson ta imot en velfortjent pris for originalmanus, slik de fleste antok i forveien.
Hvis man tar utgangspunkt i Oscar-ekspertenes spådommer, ble Boyhood nattens store taper. Linklaters storverk vant Golden Globe og BAFTA for både film og regi, men forlot Dolby Theatre med bare én pris, for beste kvinnelige birolle (Patricia Arquette).
Julianne Moore fikk en etterlengtet Oscar for hovedrollen i Alzheimer-dramaet Still Alice, mens Eddie Redmayne ble anerkjent for sin tolkning av fysikeren Stephen Hawking i The Theory of Everything.
