Golden Globe-prisene ble jevnt fordelt under nattens utdeling i Hollywood, Los Angeles. Chloé Zhaos kritikerfavoritt Nomadland tok med seg de gjeveste utmerkelsene, for beste dramafilm og regi.

Den store taperen ble David Finchers Mank, som i forkant ledet an med hele seks nominasjoner. Filmen endte ikke opp med å vinne i noen av kategoriene den konkurrerte i.

Sacha Baron Cohen ble belønnet for beste mannlige hovedrolle (komedie) i Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, som også tok med seg prisen for beste komedie. Filmen kunne blitt kveldens store vinner, for Maria Bakalova var for mange en stor favoritt i kategorien for beste kvinnelige komedieskuespiller, men denne prisen gikk i stedet til Rosamund Pike for I Care A Lot – noe de færreste hadde forutsett.
