Oscar 2021: I natt ble årets Oscar-priser delt ut i Los Angeles, og statuettene ble svært jevnt fordelt – ingen film mottok flere enn tre priser. Nomadland ^[1] ble likevel en tydelig vinner, med utmerkelsene for film, regi og beste kvinnelige hovedrolle (Frances McDormand ^[2]).

Overrekkelsen av de gyldne statuettene skjedde ikke i Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, som de foregående årene, men på Union Station i Downtown Los Angeles. Sendingen ble regissert av selveste Steven Soderbergh ^[3], og auteuren satte minsanten sitt avtrykk på estetikken (fra typografien i «fortekstene» til bruken av cinemascope-format og masse mykt, blødende motlys). Dessverre hadde han ikke den tradisjonsrike og av talere fryktede orkestergraven i sin verktøykasse, og slik fløt mange av takksigelsene ut – det ble et stivt og langtekkelig show, med få skikkelige TV-øyeblikk (de genuine talene til Thomas Vinterberg ^[4] og Yuh-Jung Youn ^[5] kompenserte noe).

Prisene ble smurt tynt ut, i tråd med en slags «trend» de siste årene. Heldigvis ble det rom for noen genuint gledelige overraskelser, som den fortjente fotoprisen til Mank ^[6] og skuespillerpris til Anthony Hopkins (The Father ^[7]). Som forventet ble Chloé Zhao ^[8] nå den andre kvinnen i Oscar-historien som har vunnet regi-prisen (den første var Kathryn Bigelow ^[9], for The Hurt Locker i 2010).
