Vil Oscar tåle 10 nominerte?

10 Oscar

“Having 10 best picture nominees is going allow Academy voters to recognize and include some of the fantastic movies that often show up in the other Oscar categories but have been squeezed out of the race for the top prize,” sier akademi-president Sid Ganis i sin egen pressemelding.

Why didn’t the Academy decided to nominate 15 films for Best Picture? This is decision is like a Little League coach letting all the kids play two or three innings and letting them bat once or twice. This way, five more films will get the box-office benefit, but not really.

The Playlist er ikke noe mindre nådige:

Look we understand times are tight, everyone’s lowering their standards to get noticed, posting «discuss this!»non-stories for traffic bait and a general whoring yourself out, but isn’t this just a tad fucking drastic? World is going to hell in a hand basket, people. It’s not about quality anymore, it’s about quantity.

In a question-and-answer session that followed the announcement, Mr. Ganis said: “I would not be telling you the truth if I said the words ‘Dark Knight’ did not come up.” Earlier this year, “The Dark Knight,” a critically acclaimed blockbuster fantasy, was excluded from a list of nominees that included “Frost/Nixon,” “Milk,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “The Reader” and the winner, “Slumdog Millionaire.” […] While broadening the reach of the awards — a best picture nomination now becomes a bit easier for documentaries, animated films and foreign-language films, for instance — it may also dilute the value of a nomination somewhat. In the past, studios have built the marketing campaign around many films around a coveted best picture nomination.
